The Darts Association of Malawi (DAM) is pleased to announce that it has begun working with the African Darts Group (ADG) to explore the introduction of a new continental competition and player development pathway for Malawi.
This development has the potential to become one of the most significant milestones in the growth of Malawian darts. Through this partnership, Malawi stands to gain access to a structured continental pathway linked to player rankings, international qualifiers, the MODUS Super Series pathway, and potentially broader opportunities within the global darts ecosystem.
The potential of this pathway has already been demonstrated elsewhere on the continent. In 2025, Kenya's David Munyua qualified for the PDC World Darts Championship through the African Darts Group qualification system, becoming the first Kenyan to compete on the sport's biggest stage. He went on to record a memorable victory over world number 18 Mike De Decker at Alexandra Palace, highlighting the opportunities that structured continental pathways can create for African players.
For Malawian players, this means a clearer route from local competition to continental and international opportunities, built on consistent performance, recognised statistics, and structured competition.
The proposed framework is primarily focused on creating opportunities for individual players through rankings, qualification events, and player development pathways. It is intended to complement, not replace, the important role played by clubs and regional leagues in developing the sport across the country.
As details of the framework are finalised, DAM will engage players through the Northern, Central, and Southern Region Darts Leagues, recognising the vital role these structures play in identifying talent and supporting player development. Regional leagues will remain an important part of the Malawian darts ecosystem and key partners in the successful implementation of this initiative.
