Central Region star leads men's rankings while Charity Chimkwaya heads women's field following a highly competitive weekend at Civo Darts Arena.
In the men's category, Mike Chipwepwete of the Central Region Darts League emerged as the top-ranked player after a series of impressive performances throughout the trials. Chipwepwete registered the tournament's only 13-dart leg and consistently produced strong finishes, underlining why he has become one of the country's most in-form players. His campaign was further highlighted by two maximum 180 scores and a 171.
Austin Chingagwe of the Southern Region Darts League finished second overall, continuing the fine form that saw him produce a memorable 15-dart leg earlier in the competition. Simeon Kaonga, Evance Mpaso, Edward Kalambo and Amon Chinyophiro completed the men's top six, with the Central Region strongly represented among the leading qualifiers.
The women's competition was equally competitive, with Charity Chimkwaya of the Central Region Darts League claiming the number one ranking position. Jenipher Phiri finished second, while Alice S. Chilamba secured third place to round off the top three.
The trials also highlighted the growing standard of darts in Malawi, with several players registering legs in the teens and producing high-quality performances throughout the weekend. Among the standout performers was Chipwepwete, whose consistency across multiple rounds set the benchmark for the competition.
The successful conclusion of the trials marks another important step for Malawian darts as the sport continues to build on recent international successes and attract growing interest across the country. With teams now selected, attention turns to Kenya and Botswana, where Malawi's representatives will be looking to carry their strong domestic form onto the international stage.
